What is a gauge cock and what is it used for?

Pressure gauge cocks are installed as shut-off devices between the pressure take-off side and the gauge. This is to depressurise it, so that it can be isolated from the pressure medium to protect against gauge failure or if it requires repair, service, calibration etc complete with 3-way position for locking, discharging and venting.

Brass gauge cocks supplied by Brannan are rated to 16 bar and standard connections include ¼”, 3/8” & ½” BSP male to male or male to female. Stainless steel ball valve versions rated to 16 bar are also available. Gauge cocks are available on brannan.co.uk in both brass and stainless steel and are offered with a variety of connections.
